People often think being a goth musician means I spend twenty-four hours a day locked in a windowless studio, surrounded by nothing but synthesizers and shadows. While that’s true most of the time, even a creature of the night needs to touch the earth once in a while.
Lately, I’ve been finding my inspiration in the garden. There’s something beautifully macabre about roses—their velvet petals are gorgeous, but they have a bite. To really feel the song of the soil, I decided to leave my platform boots at the door.
Grounded in the Dirt
I know many of you have a certain… appreciation for my pale aesthetic, but today, I wanted to show you a different side of me. I spent the afternoon wandering barefoot among the thorns and the damp earth. By the time I took a seat on my garden bench, my milky white feet were anything but.
I’ve always felt that there is a certain honesty in getting dirty. The soil felt cool and heavy against my skin, a stark contrast to the lace of my favorite green dress. Seeing the dark earth caked onto my soles made me feel more connected to the world than any stage lights ever could.
The Ritual of the Wash
Of course, the darkness can’t stay forever. Eventually, it was time to bring out the garden hose. There’s a certain peaceful ritual in washing away the day’s work—watching the muddy water swirl into the grass and seeing that familiar pale glow return to my skin.
It’s a reminder that we can always start fresh, no matter how much “dirt” we carry.
What do you prefer, my darlings? The pristine porcelain look, or Sindy with a little bit of the earth under her nails? Let me know in the comments.
