Pig Latin has always fascinated me—not as a joke, but as a creative tool. In my songs The Murmur In The Mural and Say It Sideways, I didn’t convert every word or follow rigid rules. That was intentional.
What I love about Pig Latin is how it hides meaning in plain sight. When used selectively, it becomes rhythmic, emotional, and almost private—like a thought you’re not supposed to hear, but do anyway. In The Murmur In The Mural, Pig Latin isn’t a gimmick. It’s woven into the melody where it feels right, where sound matters more than structure.
That’s the technique:
- Not every word needs converting
- Flow and cadence come first
- Use Pig Latin where it enhances mood, not where it interrupts it
Now I want to challenge you.
If you love Pig Latin—whether you’re a songwriter, producer, or just curious—I’d love to hear what you create. Write a Pig Latin song in any style, using any approach. Be strict with the rules, or break them completely. Let it be musical, strange, emotional, playful—whatever feels honest.
