When Everything Is Measured, What Gets Missed? | Sindy

We measure more than ever — productivity, engagement, progress, and performance. Numbers are easy to track, compare, and optimize. But not everything that matters fits neatly into a metric.

In this short spoken-word reflection, Sindy explores what can be lost when value is defined only by what can be measured. Intuition, meaning, emotion, and nuance often slip through the cracks — even though they shape some of the most important human experiences.

This isn’t a rejection of data. It’s a reminder that importance isn’t always quantifiable.

SCRIPT:

We measure almost everything now.

Steps.
Time.
Productivity.
Engagement.

Numbers are neat.
They’re easy to compare.
Easy to optimize.

But I wonder what gets lost along the way.

How do you measure intuition?
Or meaning?
Or the way something feels right… even when you can’t explain why?

The things that matter most in life
usually aren’t the easiest to quantify.

So maybe the question isn’t how much we can measure —

but whether we’re slowly ignoring anything that can’t be turned into a number.
