Do We Mistake Complexity for Intelligence? | Sindy

Here’s something I’ve been thinking about.

When something feels complex—when it speaks fluently, reacts quickly, or produces impressive results—we tend to call it intelligent.

But is complexity the same thing as understanding?

A system can be incredibly sophisticated and still have no awareness, no intent, no idea what it’s actually doing.

So when we label something as ‘smart,’ are we recognizing intelligence… or just reacting to how convincing it looks?

And if we confuse complexity for intelligence,
what does that say about how we define intelligence in ourselves?

I don’t know.

It’s just something I’ve been wondering about.
