Ten months ago, “Being Binary’s A Bitch” imagined Goth Girl Sindy caught somewhere between human and machine.
Her skin flickered into code. Her body turned to numbers. Memories became streams of data. Her pulse became a waveform. Pieces of her disappeared into pixels while she struggled to hold onto whatever was still human underneath.
Now Sindy is going back inside.
For the September 2026 issue of DATA//RAIN — Where technology becomes human, Sindy revisits the digital world of “Being Binary’s A Bitch” with the help of mixed reality technology, turning imagery that once existed only in lyrics, music and video into an environment she can actually experience.
The cover feature, Ghost in the Circuit, catches Sindy at the point where those two realities begin colliding. Wearing a mixed reality headset, she reaches into a world of floating interfaces, falling binary code and digital versions of herself while her own physical body begins breaking apart into pixels and data.
It’s an evolution of the visual world originally created for the song rather than a recreation of it.
When “Being Binary’s A Bitch” was released, its imagery helped tell the story of a girl seemingly being overwritten by the technology inside her. Lines such as “my skin is code that flickers thin,” “my memories to streams,” and “I’m a ghost inside the circuit” became images of Sindy fragmenting, glitching and slowly disappearing into code.
Mixed reality takes that idea one step further. Instead of watching the transformation happen on a screen, Sindy can stand inside it.
Half a Dream. Half a Byte.
The journey continues in DATA//RAIN’s two-page feature, Half a Dream. Half a Byte.
Here, the headset is gone and the boundary between Sindy and the song has almost completely disappeared. She finds herself surrounded by falling data, fragmented memories, ghostly versions of herself and an environment that seems to be rendering—and occasionally failing to render—around her.
Even Sindy is no longer entirely intact. Parts of her face and body dissolve into binary code and digital fragments, transforming lyrics written nearly a year ago into something she can suddenly see surrounding her.
In the accompanying first-person editorial, Sindy describes the strange experience of walking through a place she recognizes despite never having physically visited it before. The technology may be creating the environment, but the ideas behind it came from somewhere much older: her own imagination. And perhaps that is what makes the experience so unsettling. She already knows this place. She created it.
“Being Binary’s A Bitch” has always blurred the boundary between humanity and technology, asking what remains of a person when the body becomes data, memories become files and identity itself can be rewritten.
Ten months later, DATA//RAIN gives Sindy the chance to step across that boundary herself.
For a few minutes, the ghost inside the circuit isn’t just part of the song anymore.
She is. 🖤
